Exploring the Different Forms of Eye Disease
Our team believes in educating our patients about ocular and visual health and the steps you can take to preserve them. Proper examinations and, when indicated, appropriate follow-up appointments are necessary to maintain proper ocular and visual health.
Glaucoma & Glaucoma Eye Exams
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that cause damage to the optic nerve, which is responsible for sending visual information to your brain. Damage to the optic nerve can lead to vision loss and blindness if not detected and treated early.
Damage from glaucoma can be caused by high pressure in the eye, referred to as intraocular pressure. Age, family history, and previous eye injuries can all be glaucoma risk factors. Maintaining a regular exam schedule to monitor your vision is essential.
At Pompton Eye & Vision Care, we also offer glaucoma eye exams and use the Olleyes VisuALL VR visual field perimeter to help check for signs of glaucoma. Learn more about Olleyes VR by visiting our technology page.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration
among older adults, and there are 2 main types:
- Dry AMD is the more common form of the disease and occurs in early, intermediate, and late stages. This form of AMD occurs when the macula thins with age.
- Wet AMD is the less common form of the disease and causes faster and more severe vision loss. Wet AMD occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow in the back of the eye and damage the macula.
We use OCT and visual field testing to detect and manage AMD.
Diabetic Eye Disease
Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that causes damage to the blood vessels of the retina.
Signs and symptoms of diabetic retinopathy can include:
- Black spots or holes in your vision
- A loss of central vision
- Blurry vision
- Difficulty seeing at night
We use optical coherence tomography (OCT) and Optos Ultra-Widefield retinal imaging in our diabetic eye exams to assist with the early detection of diabetic eye issues.
Our Diagnostic Technology
Your vision is precious and we don’t want to take shortcuts when it comes to preserving it. To help assist in the early detection of eye diseases and conditions, we use innovative diagnostic technology to capture the details of your eye health.
Optos Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging
Optos Ultra-Widefield retinal imaging is an innovative imaging system that provides our team with a detailed view of your eye. This technology produces a 200-degree image and helps our team manage eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and AMD.
Optos Ultra-Widefield retinal imaging can assist our team in the early detection and management of eye diseases, allowing us to help preserve your vision.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive imaging test that involves using light waves to take a cross-sectional image of your retina. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) allows us to see the layers of your retina to map and measure their thickness.
These measurements can help us diagnose and manage eye diseases like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.

The Olleyes VisuALL VR visual field perimeter is a visual field testing option our team implements to detect and monitor the progression of eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other retinal conditions.
This advanced testing tool is noninvasive and produces precise results.
